Did you know that skin repairs and rejuvenates itself at night? That the most ideal time to have completed your night time skincare routine is between 9pm and midnight?

I had the privilege of being invited to the launch of Dermalogica's brand new night gel-cream, so appropriately named "Sound Sleep Cocoon". A product I am soon to be adding to my skincare routine, as I was sold, as always, by the list of ingredients this uniquely packaged product is composed of.

To name a few:

Kakadu Plum Extract - one of the most potent sources of vitamin c, originating from Australia, which I'm familiar with as it features in my current staples. But one can never have enough. Known for ability to fade dark marks, even out skin tone and texture resulting in the most coveted term in skincare at the moment "glow". Its antioxidant benefits will protect the skin from environmental damage e.g. pollution, UV rays, wind etc.
We are on ingredient number one and already I'd be thinking what more can I want from a product?!

Persian Silk Tea Extract - very new to me. But very well documented for its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant benefits. And more specifically its ability to protect against skin fatigue, elements that cause aging and restore skin vitality.

Tamarind Seed Extract - which acts in a manner very similar to hyaluronic acid, by aiding in the restoration of the skin's natural hydration process, elasticity and smoothness.

The Sound Sleep Cocoon gel-cream harnesses the power of science and nature to create sound sleep, healthy and radiant skin. So well thought out is their motion-encapsulated variety of essential oils, namely Lavandin oil, Sandalwood and Patchouli. Which means that  not every capsule bursts as you apply the gel-cream to your skin, and those that remain intact slowly release essential oils as you toss and turn throughout the night, resulting in a more calming, sense soothing, restful, deep sleep.

The list of key ingredients each with their own specific benefits goes on, but these were a few that stuck in mind.

As someone who struggles with sleep, the benefits of the Sound Sleep Cocoon had me intrigued from the get go. With a complimentary App that provides soothing sleep sounds and many tips for a better nights' sleep, the fancy version of me is always ready to play! (Currently not on App Store or Google Play, hopefully it will get there).

This beauty launches in South Africa on the 25th May 2018 at a retail price of R1295 for 50ml, which translates to 95 uses. Great price point for all these benefits I'd say.

Skincare is all about layering to get maximum benefit. This is a product that easily fits into any routine, and can be used by all skin types. As with all things on my beauty desk, I will be back with an update after using it for a least a month.

Please feel free to leave any thoughts or questions in the comments below and I will gladly answer as best I can. Alternatively, do you layer your skin products, and what does your night time skincare routine look like?
