We all have had a times when we feel our skin is just not looking the part and can’t figure where we are going wrong. It could breakouts, fine lines, wrinkles, pigmentation, and so on, causing the skin to look dull and lifeless and seemingly unhealthy.  However, you can get your skin back to being beautiful, healthy and with that glow, by tweaking your routine to best serve your skin’s needs.

With spring clearly in the air, there is no better time to revisit the basics, and get things back on track...

Prepare Your Skin
  • First stop, is your cleanser. Do start by cleansing your face every morning and evening. Choose a gentle cleanser, suited to your skin type, to clean your face of any dirt and makeup. This will not only prepare your skin for what’s to come but begin the process of giving you a smoother, clearer and softer texture. Don’t be tempted to use soap, please, as this will give you that squeaky clean feel, yes, but sadly also strip the skin of all its oil as well as disturb the balance of the acid mantle, leaving your skin prone to bacteria and other elements that could create an adverse reaction.

  • Do use a toner to achieve that deep pore cleansing, remove any residue left behind from your cleanse, as well as to restore the pH balance which may have been disturbed in the cleansing process.
  • Do exfoliate your skin, once or twice a week, to remove dead skin cells and to allow effective penetration of products into your skin. Don’t underestimate this step, as exfoliation not only increases your blood circulation, delivering essential nutrients to the skin but stimulates collagen synthesis as well. Do choose an exfoliant suitable to your skin type, there are a wide variety available, from, fruit acid based, enzyme based to the more well-known granular types. Acne types, you don’t want to be spreading that bacteria around, so stay away from the granular.
What cleansing routine are you using? Do you wear makeup daily and is it effectively getting rid of all the traces at the end of the day? Always love to hear your thoughts, so please share below.
