Winter weather can wreak havoc on your skin, but with a few simple changes to your skincare routine, you can keep your skin looking healthy and hydrated all season long. Here are my top tips on how to transition skincare routines from summer to winter:

Swap lightweight moisturisers for heavier ones. In the summer, you can get away with using a lightweight, water-based moisturiser. But in the winter, you'll need something a little more heavy-duty to keep your skin hydrated. Look for moisturisers that contain ingredients like hyaluronic acid, urea and ceramides, which will help lock in moisture.

Exfoliate regularly. Cold, dry air can leave your skin looking dull and flaky. Exfoliating once or twice a week can help slough off dead skin cells and reveal brighter, smoother skin. Just be sure to choose a gentle exfoliant that won't irritate your skin.

Protect your skin from the elements. Wind and cold air can cause your skin to become dry and irritated. If you're going to be outside for an extended period of time, apply a good barrier cream beforehand, and be sure to wear a scarf or a hat to protect your face from the elements.

Use a humidifier. Indoor heating can be incredibly drying to your skin. Using a humidifier can help add moisture back into the air, which will benefit your skin (and your sinuses!) in the long run.

Don't forget your lips. Your lips are some of the thinnest skin on your body, which means they're especially susceptible to dryness in the winter. Be sure to use a lip balm that contains nourishing ingredients like shea butter or coconut oil.

Transitioning your skincare routine from summer to winter doesn't have to be complicated. With a few simple changes, you can keep your skin looking and feeling healthy all season long.
